Coming to SAA? Wish you were coming to SAA? Happy you’re not going to SAA but wanna follow along? You’ve come to the right place.
Inspired by the Students and New Archives Professionals Section (SNAP), WArS has the following advice on how to stay connected throughout SAA, no matter where you’re tuning in from.
Follow #saa17 on Twitter for general conference tweets, and tweet what’s happening using #saa17 throughout the conference
See what’s happening at the WArS-recommended sessions
Participate (show up, live tweet, follow along on your phone…) in our section meeting on Wednesday, July 26 from 2:45-3:30. We’ll be located in room B113, and digitally located via #SAAWArS
See what other WArS members and friends are tweeting throughout the conference Women Archivists Section Twitter list – your can add yourself, send a DM to @liney789 to be added to the list, and/or use the list to find new Twitter friends.
Keep up with posts from @WomenArchivists for their comments on the conference
Please join WAR at the SAA Annual Meeting to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women archivists, in order to highlight the past and present accomplishments of women archivists, recognizing the importance of the history of the women who have shaped and were shaped by the archival profession. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary! Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. However, you don’t need to be at the annual meeting to participate–remote participation is welcome too! We hope you’ll join us, WARriors!!!

Our keynote speaker for the event will be Michele Pacifico who will reflect on her article, “Founding Mothers: Women in the Society of American Archivists, 1936-1972,” The American Archivist (1987).
More information about the edit-a-thon (including editing resources and lists of articles to enhance or create), is available on the WAR Wikipedia edit-a-thon event page. This page is being actively updated, so please check back soon!
We want your input! Is there a woman archivist not in Wikipedia, or about whom little is written? Please feel free to suggest names to add to the list of articles to create or enhance: http://goo.gl/forms/wJE6Chjaz7.
Not sure if an article already exists? Please check the list of articles already in Wikipedia. Of course, you are welcome to add to the list on the Wikipedia event page too!
We appreciate your suggestions and look forward to seeing you at SAA!
Following the recent SAA Council meeting on May 22-24, additional assistance will be provided to attendees to help with child care-related costs:
“As a way of supporting a long-standing SAA policy on child care at the Annual Meeting, the Council included in the budget $6,000 to assist members with child care costs associated with attendance at the Annual Meeting. SAA is collecting information about interest in child care services via the registration form and will be in touch with interested individuals before the conference.”
